Finally a bit of love for the BBC daytime drama which celebrated its 20th anniversary this year with a 60 minute special. If you’ve followed my Twitter for a while you will know I have a lot of love for Doctors which I wish would have more coverage in the UK press and on soap websites and magazines.
Across the 18 categories, the BBC led the way with 13 wins, three of which were for hit series Man Like Mobeen, produced by Tiger Aspect Productions for BBC Three. Celebrating its 20th year on air, the popular BBC Studios’ drama filmed in Birmingham, Doctors received two coveted awards during the ceremony. Regional production companies also celebrated success, with Rural Media winning three awards and FirstLookTV, Second Home Studios, Naked and Conteur each taking home an award.
First up was the award for Acting Performance – Male which went to Adrian Lewis Morgan for his role as Dr Jimmi Clay.
Jimmi’s 2020 got off to a terrible start when he was locked for drugs charges after being set up.
The biggest win of the night also went to Doctors who beat Shakespeare and Hathaway and Father Brown to claim victory for best Drama.
You can catch Doctors from Monday to Thursday on BBC One at 13:45
